EFFLUX ("we," "us," or "our") operates the EFFLUX mobile application and the efflux.studio website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account information: Email address for authentication.
• Photos: Images you upload to create scent memories. We extract metadata (GPS coordinates, timestamp, altitude, camera direction) from your photos to reconstruct the scene.
• Survey responses: Answers to clarifying questions about your memory.
• Shipping address: If you place an order, we collect your name and shipping address.
• Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe. We never store credit card numbers.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device information: Device type, operating system, and Expo push notification token (if you enable notifications).
• Usage data: We log events such as memory creation, formula generation, orders, and shared memory views for analytics.
• Crash reports: If you opt in, Sentry collects crash data to help us improve stability.

Third-Party APIs

To reconstruct the scene from your photo, we send metadata (not the photo itself unless required for visual analysis) to:

• Google Places API: To identify nearby businesses and landmarks.
• Visual Crossing: To retrieve historical weather conditions at the location and time.
• Anthropic Claude: For AI-powered visual scene analysis of your uploaded photo.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and deliver your personalized fragrance.
• To process and fulfill orders.
• To send order status notifications (if enabled).
• To generate shareable memory pages when you choose to share.
• To improve our product and fix issues.
• To communicate with you about your account or orders.

3. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

• Stripe: For payment processing.
• Convex: Our backend infrastructure provider (data storage and serverless functions).
• Google: For Places API and location data.
• Visual Crossing: For weather data.
• Sentry: For crash reporting (anonymized).
• Expo: For push notification delivery.

4. Shared Memories

When you share a memory, a public page is created at efflux.studio/m/{token} that displays the memory name, scene analysis, reconstruction data, and scent formula. Shared pages are accessible to anyone with the link. You can share or stop sharing at any time.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it (e.g., order records for tax purposes).

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure authentication (OTP-based), and access controls. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your data.
• Opt out of push notifications at any time via device settings.
• Withdraw consent for data processing.

8. Children's Privacy

EFFLUX is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through the app.
